The previous post (that of Thursday, November 9 - you should probably read that first) was originally an e-mail that I sent out to a number of people in my address book that I thought would be interested, one way or the other. As I have already mentioned, most of the people on the receiving end of my e-mails are not necessarily in agreement with me. I will now post parts of some of the responses that I got, leaving the senders anonymous, and react to them.
-No, they need Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore and John Kerry
-Millions of dollars of out-of-State dollars to win LOCAL elections in little ol' Maryland
-Hollywood Socialist Machine (and Al Franken and his ultra-popular radio show)
-Howard Stern and satelite radioGore and Kerry have both shown to be non-electable. Bill Clinton cannot serve as President any longer (see U.S. Constitution, Amendment 22). Here comes Hillary !!
Howard Stern? Do people actually listen to that a*#hole?
Al Franken -- now him I like! And let's not forget Michael Moore!
Even though at the time the war began, the majority of the level-headed, voting, working-class people supported it. War is a strange animal and it isn't something that you can just bail out of once it begins. You can't just "take your toys and go home". Are the lives that were lost to be in vain or do we work for a "real solution"?I did not support this war from day 1. And I feel that a country can end a war as fast as it can start one and that 3000 more troops don't need to die merely to justify the deaths of the first 3000 and not have them die in vain.
Might you have a different response if one of your daughters perished in a building or on an airplane on
9/11? Sadly, probably not, you would simply blame corporate America ... whatever that means.I have to say that I would be a whole lot
more outraged and pi%*ed-off if one of my daughters was killed in Iraq fighting in a war that this country has no business being in than if she had gone to work in the Twin Towers on 9/11 and was killed in the terrorist attack. I also don't understand why this responder doesn't seem to understand what "corporate America" means when that person is employed by one of the top 5 defense contractors in the country.
I couldn't have said it better.Finally, a friend!
And try to relax--sounds like you're wound way too tight. Put on that Jimmy Buffett Christmas album, stick yer feet in some sand (litter box'll do in a pinch)(clean it first), open a bottle of Dos Equis and let yourself chill. Vitriol is just not healthy.Ya know, maybe I
was wound a little too tight. But I've had to put up with all this for some time, now. I
do tune in to Rush Limbaugh from time to time to hear what he has to say (actually, I think that his substitute fill-ins are a lot more insightful than he is) and I
do watch President Bush's speeches and press conferences, but there's just so much that a liberal can take. I was very excited and encouraged by the state-wide and national election results and just needed some release. I feel much better, now, thank you.
By the way, if I still have your attention. There is a PEACE VIGIL planned for Friday, November 17 at 7:00PM in front of the Bel Air Courthouse to show support for ending the war in Iraq and for honoring those who have met with the misfortune of sacrificing their lives there. If you feel that you would like to show support for this effort and would like to add to the numbers of those who are not afraid to be seen doing so, come out and support the vigil. Peace to all.
